About Rosemary


Rosemary Bakker is a certified interior designer, gerontologist, and was on academic staff at Weill Cornell Medical College for over a decade. During the last fifteen years, Ms. Bakker has promoted the role of the home environment to optimize the health, function, and well being of the 50 plus. She has consulted on a variety of living environments, including single family homes, senior housing, and healthcare facilities.


Ms. Bakker has authored two books on design, aging, and wellness: Penguin Books (1997) and Lark Books (2010), AARP Guide to Revitalizing Your Home: Beautiful Living for the Second Half of Life. An excellent speaker, Ms. Bakker has presented to diverse audiences, including health care and aging service professionals, interior designers, housing experts, Fortune 500 corporations, Centers for Disease Control, MOMA, the Alzheimer's Association, the United Nations, and the 50 plus. Rosemary was a guest on Martha Stewart Living Radio and was featured in the Public Lives column of The New York Times and in AARP The Magazine.


Rosemary was the Director of ThisCaringHome.org, an award winning multimedia website on home safety and design for caregivers of persons with dementia. In July 2010 she won the 2010 National Alzheimer’s Caregiver Recognition Award from Met Life and the National Caregiver Alliance.
